About the Daybreak Easel

The Daybreak Easel. What it is, and what it isn't.

The Daybreak Easel is designed to be reproduced.

An easel like this is pretty straightforward for anyone with moderate skills and a woodshop to make for themselves -- as long as they're only making one. Production is an entirely different animal, let alone mass production. (Especially if the designer would rather be painting, or they're building their easels to the standards of fine furniture.) Simple production was a requirement from the start, and guided our design.

The Daybreak Easel is designed to be disruptive.

Best in class performance at a market shocking price. Being best or being cheapest alone wouldn't be good enough. This is designed to be both.

The Daybreak Easel is not a complete, stand-alone kit.

It's built to use with a tripod, like most modern plein air easels. The panel holder mounts to the top, like a camera would, and the palette hangs from the two front legs.

The Daybreak Easel is not a stripped down starter easel that's "good enough," but ultimately unsatisfying.

It's designed to give a better painting experience than other kits on the market, and at a fraction of the cost.

The Daybreak Easel is not an heirloom-quality crafted piece of furniture.

It's built with layers of thin, unfinished plywood. It's basically a craft kit. The wood will need some time to acclimate to your environment and you should expect some shifting. A bit of sanding will improve movements, fit, and comfort, and you can protect it with the finish of your choice. Finishing is the one real compromise we've made to keep the price low. As a result, it may not be the most beautiful looking easel out there but make no mistake: it is made to work beautifully.
